Exploring Amazon QuickSight Community, Features, & Upcoming Additions

Author: Prantika Sinha

Amazon QuickSight is more than just a BI tool. It’s a thriving community, a constantly evolving platform, and a powerhouse for modern analytics. In this second episode of “Q Sera Sera,” series, I’ll explore the QuickSight community, the latest features, and what’s on the wish list for the future.

1. The QuickSight community: A hub for learning & collaboration

One of the most valuable aspects of QuickSight isn’t just the tool, it’s the community behind it. Whether you’re troubleshooting, sharing insights, or looking for best practices, the QuickSight Community is the place to be.

  • The arena: A free environment where users can build dashboards, collaborate, and get real-time solutions.
  • Discussion forums: Got a question? Chances are, it’s already been answered or will be in no time!
  • Expert recognition: Community managers recognize top contributors, ensuring active members get the spotlight they deserve.

Overall, the QuickSight community isn’t just about finding answers—it’s about growing together.

2. The hottest new QuickSight feature: The ‘Apply Button’ for filters

For the longest time, QuickSight dashboards would automatically apply filters as soon as a value was selected. While this worked, it often slowed down performance, especially when handling multiple filters at once.

Now, QuickSight users can use the Apply Button which allows them to set all filters first, then apply changes in one go. The result? Better performance, a smoother user experience, and more control over dashboard interactions.

Simple, yet game changing.

3. QuickSight’s evolving future: What’s next?

QuickSight is growing, but what key features are still on the wishlist? Here are the top three functionalities I’d love to see:

  • Enhanced data preparation: While QuickSight does support data prep, the options are still limited. More flexibility would mean more accurate and insightful dashboards.
  • Customizable tooltips & labels: Right now, the customization options for tooltips and in-chart labels are minimal. Adding richer formatting would improve data storytelling.
  • Advanced color palettes: Colors play a huge role in visual analytics. Having greater control over color customization would bring QuickSight’s visuals to the next level.

These enhancements would make an already powerful tool even better. Fingers crossed that AWS brings them in soon!

Why QuickSight keeps winning

Between its collaborative community, continuous feature updates, and cloud-first design, QuickSight is proving itself as a major player in the BI space.

AWS is always listening, and the platform keeps evolving—so the best thing you can do? Stay engaged, keep learning, and share your insights with the community. Stay tuned for more episodes in the Q Sera Sera series. You can also read more of our BI resources here.
