Seamlessly Migrating 550+ Dashboards from Tableau to QuickSight in Record Time

When a global cloud services marketing team approached us, they initially believed they needed to migrate 300 Tableau dashboards to Amazon QuickSight. But during early scoping, it became clear that the actual footprint was 300 Tableau workbooks, amounting to over 1,000 dashboards.

With tight timelines and strict data access controls, they needed a partner who could move fast, work iteratively, and deliver measurable ROI. That’s where we stepped in.

Automating at Scale with EZConvert^BI

We ran all 1,000+ dashboards through our proprietary migration tool, EZConvert^BI, which immediately handled about 80% of the migration effort. EZConvert^BI comprises two critical components:

Analyzer: Assesses compatibility with QuickSight, flags unsupported features, and generates a readiness and utilization report to eliminate redundant dashboards.
Converter: Automatically migrates dashboards and identifies areas needing visual or functional tuning.

This automated pipeline allowed us to quickly transform a massive Tableau footprint into a QuickSight-ready structure, accelerating progress and surfacing critical edge cases early.

Manual Finishing, Shared Execution

Once the dashboards were processed through EZConvert^BI, our team took ownership of 450 dashboards, guiding them through the remaining 20%: functional tuning, visual alignment, formula adjustments, unit testing, and UAT/QA support.

Just five weeks before the originally planned closure, the client requested an additional 100 dashboards to be migrated. This included performing functional tuning, visual alignment, formula adjustments, unit testing, and UAT/QA support.

The client’s internal team handled the remaining 450 dashboards, using the converted outputs as their base.

Navigating Sensitive Data Constraints

The client’s internal data policies prohibited sharing live Tableau data with external partners. An initial workaround—masking sensitive fields—didn’t provide the flexibility we needed, due to hardcoded values. To address this, we flattened all filters for validation at the dashboard level and reinstated them during UAT, preserving accuracy while staying compliant.
